FEASYBILITY STUDY
This feasibility study is the result of the “Drava River Basin Project”. The project is funded by the EU (CADSES Interreg IIIB) and co-financed by the BMWA1, Croatia, Hungary, the provincialGovernment of Styria, the provincial Government of Carinthia and the BMLFUW2. The intention of this project is the implementation of future infrastructure projects in the catchment area of the Drava river.
The results of this feasibility study are relevant for the project area “waste“, including the following four counties in North West Croatia:
* Krapinsko-zagorska županija (county of Krapina-Zagorje)* Varaždinska županija (county of Varaždin)
* Koprivničko-križevačka županija (county of Koprivnica-Križevci)
* Međimurska županija (county of Međimurje)
In the first part of the feasibility study, the Drava River Basin Project and its intentions are described. Afterwards, some general information is provided on the situation of waste management in Croatia and in the project area (geographic details, background of the project, statistical data, legal situation). The current waste management situation in Croatia in general and in the four counties in particular concerning the organisation of waste collection and recycling is described in greater detail and with actual data, which have been collected for the project. Furthermore, an overview is given of the state of landfills in the project area including the presentation of some exemplary landfills. The study also comprises a prognosis of the development of waste amounts and an estimation of the necessary landfill capacity, which is based on different assumptions and the actual study on waste management in the project area. The general situation of the landfills in the four counties is described with the objective to handle the problems. A technical strategy for regional waste management is described. Finally the feasibility study evaluates solution methods (estimation of investment costs, fees and operating costs, costs of collection and transport of waste, operating costs of landfills in Croatia).
